The SSD Experience…

Posted on Posted in Hardware, Latest News, Studio

The single best investment to speed up any Desktop, Laptop or External Portable Drive is an SSD (Solid State Disk)

I have used a few different SSDs in my studio computers and workstations over the years and they all offer a MAJOR boost to OS boot times, overall system performance and app load times.

One factor to look out for though with an SSD is what is called Wear Levelling.

Wear leveling refers to the practice of ensuring that certain NAND blocks aren’t written and erased more often than others. (Source: ExtremeTech)

Basically over time an SSD gets slower and slower but this generally affects the earlier generations more so than current products.

A particular model that I can reccommend for sustained speed and longevity (not to mention an amazing warranty) is the SanDisk Extreme Pro SSD.  This drive will dramatically speed up your DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) or any desktop, laptop, notebook or external HDD… So check it out from your favourite retailer / supplier and give your poor old system a big kick up the bum!

Ofcourse, if you are building a new system or lucky enough to already be rocking a highend motherboard and chipset that can spare some PCIe lanes or an M.2 controller then you will want to invest in a drive that supports the super insanely fast NVMe protocol… You can read more about that over at PC World.
